In Botswana, just like in many others places in the world, the dream of owning a house struggles with the ongoing conflict between traditional and modern building techniques. The nowadays housing typologies are not adapted to the local context or to the climate conditions, concrete blocks and corrugated metal sheets have become standard building materials. As a consequence, there are more and more private or social houses being built, presenting low architectural quality and a high ecological footprint.
“We aim to investigate the topic of housing in Botswana and to develop solutions that are architecturally ambitious and environmentally friendly.”
